We are continuing to cast spotlight on our team members and this week we are looking at you, Trevor!
Trevor is our software architect and is responsible for leading the development process so things would actually work. He (almost) has a master’s degree in Cyber Security, he just needs to finish his final dissertation. But we feel that the data can be certainly trusted in Trevor’s hands and we are happy that he is taking care of ours.
Trevor is also a father to two small children and he is trying to stay active during his free time. For example, he tries to walk at least 10 000 steps every day and last year his average daily step count was 9600! Well done!
His co-workers describe him as a hardworking and detail-oriented colleague, who always manages to solve every problem that lands on his desk. In the beginning he might leave the impression, that he is modest and quiet, but actually Trevor is just analysing what to say and thinks before he speaks. Well this is a great characteristic, we think!
Trevor also likes board games and discovering new places both in Estonia and elsewhere. He likes to play Ingress and that has taken him all sorts of interesting places starting from abandoned houses and small Estonian islands.
As always, we asked Trevor a few questions to get to know him even better:
What’s your job title/role at Hotelbuddy?
Software architect
What sort of duties do you have at Hotelbuddy?
Figuring out how to build Hotelbuddy’s systems and leading actual development.
How long is your experience at the IT/tech field?
~7 years
What was your first job?
Drove with a tractor on a strawberry field.
Who inspires you?
My mother
What’s the most exciting part of your job?
Nothing beats going live with something you’ve developed – the more new functionalities there are the more exciting it is. It’s when everything happens at the same time, a lot of stuff goes wrong but it always works out fine in the end.
What’s something you find challenging about your work?
Prioritizing different tasks is really challenging, as the environment and the system itself is in constant change. Focusing on wrong topics might lead to bottlenecks and ultimately wasted time and money.
What’s your most-used productivity hack?
Listening to good music with a noise-cancelling headset.
What animal would you consider your spirit animal?
Falcon, as it observes/analyzes problems from above to get a wider perspective to reach quick and efficient results.
Are you a morning person or a night owl?
Night owl. Although, the other family members are all morning persons so wake-up time is always too early… Not a perfect combination in terms of hours of sleep.
What show are you currently binge-watching?
I have to admit I haven’t watched any shows in years, let alone binge-watching. I do, however, enjoy listening to podcasts and would like to recommend Algorütm to any developer who understands Estonian.
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
The plan was to always remain a 6-year-old, so that I wouldn’t even have to go to school.
What’s your idea of a perfect day?
To differ from regular days, a perfect day must contain no problem-solving, preferably in a tropical climate.
Is your glass half full or half empty?
There’s free refills at the office so there’s no need to worry about stuff like that.
If you had a warning label, what would yours say?
Expected minimum “lines covered” ratio is 0.9
