Team member in spotlight: Magnar Vares, our software developer

Today we would like you to meet Magnar, who is our software developer. Magnar is the latest addition to the team, also the youngest of the bunch, but has already surpassed the expectations and excelled at what he does.

His colleagues describe him as very social and a great organizer. He is a very good adapter and can learn very fast. Before becoming a software developer, Magnar used to work as a teacher’s assistant in university and is actively using many of the skills he adopted during this time. Magnar tries to be as active as possible during his off time. However, normally he does not stick to one activity for a very long time. Each year he finds a new sport to call his passion. At the moment he enjoys playing badminton in the winter season and Ultimate Frisbee during the summer.

An interesting fact about Magnar- although he is still very young, he is already married! Therefore, sorry ladies, but this handsome gent is already taken- so move on:)

What’s your job title/role at Hotelbuddy?

Software developer

What sort of duties do you have at Hotelbuddy?

I write code.

How long is your experience at the IT/tech field?

I have a little less than a year of experience as a software developer. Before that I was a teaching assistant in UT’s Computer Science Institute for a couple of years.

What was your first job?

I worked as a construction worker during summers in gymnasium.

Who inspires you?

Actually, the person who inspires me the most is my wife. I still have a lot to learn from her to see so much happiness in little things in life.

What’s the most exciting part of your job?

When I take on a task which doesn’t seem to have an obvious solution in the beginning and then finding a solution feels like solving a puzzle.

What’s something you find challenging about your work?

As I am actually a very active person, I find it hard to sit behind the table all day. Luckily I can also stand behind it.

What’s your most-used productivity hack?

It’s music, either rock or classical.

What animal would you consider your spirit animal?

Dog as I like their happiness and friendliness.

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

Definitely a morning person.

What show are you currently binge-watching?

Big Bang Theory (again), first two seasons are good so I like to rewatch those.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a history or PE teacher.

What’s your idea of a perfect day?

Spending time in nature, doing some sports and ending the day in a sauna at home.

Half empty
